ALEX POZZY

YES&Co. is a long-form improv comedy group that invites local people of interest to tell true stories at our shows. Our improvisers make up the rest. This month we will be joined by Alex Pozzy.

Alex founded the Portland Ultimate (Frisbee) League in 1993, growing it from four teams at its founding to over six-hundred players on 32 teams during its heyday in the early 2000s. This league has spawned an amazing community of players which is still thriving, with many children of the early players – including his own – playing at the highest levels of national and international competition.

Playing Ultimate full time wasn’t enough Frisbee, so Alex began playing disc golf in 1996, and in 1999 reached the pinnacle of two sports in the same year – competing in both the National Ultimate Championships, as well as the Professional Disc Golf World Championships. With his kids off to college and beyond, he retired from a 15-year middle and high school coaching career and is currently battling to be among the top over-50 Disc Golfers in the area.

Alex’s more recent passion and project has been at the magical Stonehedge music venue in Gray, where he and his amazing wife Jen have become part-time concert promoters, bringing multiple shows per year to the local music community – a project which grew out of a necessity to see live music during Covid, and which somehow bloomed into this oddball hobby where you get to throw concerts for your friends.

When Alex isn’t throwing Frisbees, he can often be found telling his nutty stories at the Teller’s Garden or at Stories Told Live at Blue. The rest of the time you can likely find him in his happy place – on the dance floor.
