About
MAYO STREET ARTS
Mayo Street Arts is a welcoming community arts center in the heart of Portland’s Kennedy Park neighborhood: the most densely populated, ethnically and culturally diverse square mile in Maine. MSA programming embraces variety, with a particular focus on puppetry and traditional arts.
In addition to visual and performing arts programs, MSA offers free youth programming and offers audiences opportunities to participate in the forms they see on our stage through workshops with visiting artists, puppet slams, and open mics.
In collaboration with Cultural Resources, MSA operates the Traditional Arts Network, a consortium of traditional artists and ensembles who wish to preserve and share their artistic and cultural practices.
Our local puppetry community is served with monthly puppet shows and workshops; an affinity group; semi-annual puppet slams for experimental, adult, and short-form works; and a biannual city-wide festival of international puppetry, Puppets in Portland.
