The Kit Demos Off/Axis Big Band plays an eclectic mix of hard-driving swing music from Thelonious Monk and the Charles Mingus Big Band, Afro-Cuban works by Dafnis Prieto, avant-garde pieces from Anna Webber and Roswell Rudd, and modern big band tunes by the Dave Holland Big Band.
The band boasts 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 saxophones, bass, drums, piano, guitar, and vocals. Several vocal charts feature singer Kate Schothius. Plus original arrangements of Eddie Harris, Elmo Hope, and Roswell Rudd.
All proceeds from this event will be donated to Mayo Street Arts. The group is excited to make its debut in Portland in support of such a long running and community oriented venue.
