About the van Voorst Jazz Trio:
Led by Jan van Voorst van Beest, the van Voorst Jazz group has taken many forms over the last 20 years, with variations of jazz music and instrumentation, from organ/drums driven duos and small straight ahead groups to outside jazz with hints of the hard sounds of the 60s and 70s. In it’s current formation, the van Voorst Jazz Trio will be performing a selection of original jazz compositions and familiar standards.
Jan van Voorst van Beest – Drums
Jan has been a musician and drummer in the New England area for over 25 years, leading his own groups and as a sideman playing jazz, funk, and rock. He has previously worked and recorded with numerous musicians including Rob Eberhardt Young (national recording artist on Imaginary Road and Polygram records), Curtis Clark, Oliver Lake, and Alex Foster (Miles Davis, Saturday Night Live) to name a few. van Voorst van Beest has also recorded his own work which can be found on the Ludington/van Voorst record “Listening Post” released in 2004.
Isaac van Voorst van Beest – Piano
Isaac is a young talent currently studying with renowned pianist, Vardan Ovsepian and on his way to study jazz performances at Berklee College of Music this fall. This will be his last gig in Portland before school.
Duane Edwards – Bass
Son of a beer money bassist, grew from humble beginnings in the Midcoast of Maine. Starting out as a DIY heavy metal musician, his professional career brought him to 3,000+ gigs by his mid-thirties; performing the United States abroad and internationally. His second album as a leader, Birds, will be released in the coming months. Duane is the jazz bass professor at Bowdoin, Colby, and the University of Maine at Augusta. He also serves as an ensemble director and adjunct lecturer.
About the Rahul Carlberg Trio:
