the Nu Band

The Nu Band is a sparkling, dynamic group of pros – all of whom lead a number of groups, play and record with a variety of world-class musicians, and compose.

The Nu Band was organized in 1999 by Lou Grassi and Roy Campbell. For fourteen years, six widely acclaimed cds, six European tours, and several U.S. tours the band functioned as a co-operative democratically run organization with the same personnel at all times.

Due to the untimely death of Roy Campbell in January 2014 and the fact that we had a fully booked tour for March, 2014 it became necessary to find a replacement for our beloved colleague Roy. It was our good fortune that trumpet master Thomas Heberer was able to make himself available. The tour was a great success and we’ve now documented this band on our cd, The Cosmological Constant (In Memory of Roy Campbell, Jr.) released on Not Two Records in April, 2015.

The Nu Band has performed at The Knitting Factory, The Vision Club Series and The Music Now Festival and The Vision Festival in NYC; The Bop Shop, Rochester, NY; The Chicago Cultural Center; Hallwalls Contemporary Center for the Arts, Buffalo, NY; The Detroit Art Space, The University of Pittsburgh, The University of Indiana and many other venues throughout the U.S. The Nu Band toured Europe in January 2005, October 2007, January 2009, January 2011, March 2012 and March 2014 thrilling audiences in France, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland, Austria, Hungary, Italy and Leichtenstein.
