TCHAIKOVSKY | Suite from Sleeping Beauty, Op. 66a
ZHOU TIAN | Flute Concerto (PSO Co-Commission)
PROKOFIEV | Selections from Romeo and Juliet
Throughout history, stories have come alive through many enchanting languages—be it music, dance, or words. Popular favorites are imagined and reimagined in different forms as various artists draw inspiration from their timeless themes. Love stories in particular carry an appealing draw— whether it’s the passionate, tragic tale of Romeo & Juliet, or the whimsical, fairy-tale romance of Sleeping Beauty.
With special guests from Portland Ballet and Portland Stage, the Portland Symphony Orchestra explores how different artforms come together and enhance the power of a story.
The program also features flutist Mimi Stillman playing Zhou Tian’s Flute Concerto, co-commissioned by the PSO, exploring a diversity of musical styles by reflecting on the long history of the flute.
