The Phantom returns to haunt Mayo Street Arts this October in honor of the musical’s 40th anniversary!

Tophat Productions’ miniature stage production of The Phantom of the Opera will be performed two evenings, just in time for the spooky season! Two classically-trained opera singers, David Worobec and Bethany Perkins, along with a toy cast of action figures and a miniature stage. Don’t miss your chance to see this Andrew Lloyd Webber musical as you have never seen it before!

Set in the 19th century at the Paris Opera House, this iconic and dark romance follows a disfigured, murderous musical genius who lives beneath the cellars of the opera house and terrorizes the opera staff with his unhinged demands, or else disaster will follow. He secretly tutors a chorus girl named Christine, helping her voice reach new heights. But when Christine’s childhood sweetheart, Raoul enters the picture, it sets up a dangerous love triangle.

David Worobec, Tophat Productions’ founder and principal artist, is a classically-trained Opera singer and a talented pianist. A graduate of the Boston Conservatory, David has performed in a wide range of settings and ensembles. He has an exceptional vocal range, and has trained across a broad spectrum of musical genres. His repertoire includes opera, showtunes, standards, and more. He is also Maine’s premier expert in miniature theater productions, and has staged hundreds of full stage shows in miniature form, complete with advanced lighting, stage sets, a miniature cast and props, and recorded orchestral accompaniment. David’s work with miniature theater has been widely featured in print publications and video documentaries alike.

Bethany Perkins is a soprano, pianist, teacher and music director from Southern Maine. She teaches private and group voice and piano lessons and choirs at 317 Main Community Music Center in Yarmouth. Bethany sings soprano with the professional early music ensemble St. Mary Schola, and recently performed as the soprano soloist on Scarlatti’s Salve Regina. She music directs the choir and plays the piano and organ at New Brackett Church (UU/UCC) on Peaks Island. Bethany is a veteran of local musical theater, both directing and performing. She made her exciting Tophat debut with her friend David in 2023 as Christine and Carlotta in The Phantom of the Opera.

Run Time: Approximately 135 minutes, including an intermission.
