Puppets in Portland presents
WORKSHOP
FOR THE
PUPPEt CURIOUS
with Katkatha Puppet Arts Trust
Join the artists from Katkatha for an introduction to the fundamental principles that apply to all forms of puppetry.
This workshop is perfect for beginning puppeteers, as well as folks without any experience who are “puppet curious.”
Workshop attendees will learn how to animate bunraku-style or “table top” puppets in small group using direct-manipultation and three basic tenants: breath, focus, and movement.

The Katkatha Puppet Arts Trust is a puppet theatre company based in Delhi, India which began in 1998. Since then creating a rigorous training system for puppeteers has been a key focus for the group. In absence of a puppet school or courses to train professional puppeteers in India, Katkatha conducts intensive short courses and workshops in puppet techniques, supports interns who learn by following the work of the company. The focus is to train the next generation of professional puppeteers, create a discourse around puppetry and also build a network of puppeteers.
Run Time: Approximately 150 minutes
