Amy Hunter is a native of the lake and foothills region of Maine where she began her piano studies. She holds both a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music in Piano Performance, magna cum laude, from Temple University’s Esther Boyer School of Music in Philadelphia, PA where she studied under Dr. Charles Abramovic. She also has had the privilege of participating in masterclasses and additional studies with renowned artists including Arnaldo Cohen, David Finko, Alexander Fiorillo, Laura Kargul, Oleg Koshelev, and Wu Han.

Amy has performed as a soloist throughout Maine, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and California including performances of Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No. 1 and Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 3 as well as Handel’s Messiah on pipe organ, and J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4 BWV 1049 on harpsichord. A devoted collaborator, Amy has served as accompanist for collegiate choirs at Villanova University, Gwynedd-Mercy College, Rosemont College, and Temple University, as well as for church and community choirs in Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and San Jose, California.

Deeply committed to music education, Amy has worked with organizations such as Washington Performing Arts Society (D.C.) in their education outreach department, with the non-profit, Music for Minors (CA), teaching general music in schools throughout the Bay Area that lack formal music programs. She has also taught classes and private lessons at Montgomery Community College (PA), and Colby College (ME), as well as numerous private music schools. In 2015, she founded The Hunter School of Music in San Jose, CA – a studio employing six teaching artists and offering instruction in piano, guitar, ukulele, theory, and composition.

Amy loves teaching piano to students of all ages and abilities, tailoring lessons to each students’ musical interests and individual goals. She strives to instill not only technical skill and musical understanding but also the dedication, confidence, and patience that come with learning an instrument.
