This darkly comedic musical tale, winner of a Tony award and the U.K.’s Olivier award, takes place in Victorian London. Sweeney Todd, a barber who was unjustly exiled, escapes after fifteen years and returns home with the help of a virtuous but naïve sailor, Anthony Hope. The barber is determined to reunite with his wife Lucy and daughter Johanna and to wreak vengeance upon the lecherous judge and spineless beadle who framed him. Sweeney’s former landlady, Mrs. Lovett, has a meat pie shop, where Sweeney reopens his barbershop. His unsuccessful attempt to kill the judge, who is now Johanna’s guardian, drives him into madness, and he vows revenge not only on the judge but on all mankind. Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett devise a murderous scheme that at the same time adds a special but gruesome ingredient to her pies. The barber’s bloodthirsty mania and Mrs. Lovett’s inability to meet the demand for her sensational pies, lead to unimaginable heartbreak, blackmail, and destruction.

Sweeney Todd is a darkly comedic and thrilling musical experience that will bring you to the edge of your seat. Sweeney Todd is recommended for ages 10 and up. The show contains mature themes and disturbing imagery, so it may not be suitable for younger children. Israel Gursky, conductor Dona D. Vaughn Director
