Solo piano concert featuring the music of JS Bach, Franz Schubert, and more.
From Amy:
I am thrilled to share this program with you! I have always thoroughly enjoyed listening to, learning, and performing the music of J.S. Bach. This particular Suite is a lesser-known piece – performed far less frequently than his Partitas, English Suites, or French Suites – and is a recent addition to my repertoire. Schubert’s B Flat Major Sonata has been on my list of pieces to learn for years. Ever since undergrad I have adored the Schubert Sonatas. I performed the C Minor, D. 958 as part of my undergraduate recital, and over the years have constantly tinkered with many of the other Sonatas for fun. The B Flat Major Sonata is Schubert’s last piano sonata, composed just months before his death, and was not published until 10 years after his death. It is a perfect example of Schubert’s extraordinary gift for lyricism with moments of breathtaking beauty and dark drama contrast.
